Own Your Awkward – book review
I was kindly given an electronic copy of Own Your Awkward: How to Have Better and Braver Conversations About Your Mental Health by Michelle Morgan in exchange for an honest review*.

Own Your Awkward book blurb
A hugely practical and inspiring self-help guide, Own Your Awkward will help you handle those awkward conversations around mental health. Michelle Morgan blends research and personal experience to help you tackle those topics, whether in the workplace or with family and friends.
Let’s be honest – it can be really awkward talking about our mental health!
Whether you’re offering someone support or looking for ways to help yourself, these conversations can feel difficult, embarrassing and complex.
In Own Your Awkward Michelle Morgan, Mental Health First Aid Ambassador, trainer and speaker explores why we feel awkward and shows us how to talk more openly about our mental health – and how we really can embrace our awkward.
Through her own story of burnout, clinical depression and anxiety, combined with the lived experience of others, Michelle explains how you can transform those tricky moments into your power using four key cornerstones – confidence, capability, communication and compassion, to help reframe your story.
You’ll learn how to start those all-important conversations, with clear steps and practical advice.
It’s time to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable, love your awkward and have better and braver conversations about mental health.
My overall thoughts on Own Your Awkward
I found this book to be a hugely practical and inspiring self-help guide.
Own Your Awkward is a book I will refer back to to help me handle those awkward conversations around mental health.
After reading this book I felt a sense of increased calm and that I am better equipped to deal with the stresses and strains of my everyday life.
I will utilise the BRAVE Talking Framework when having conversations about my own mental health to avoid burnout.
When having conversations with friend or colleagues I will share what the six supports are, what the M-plan is and utilise the SENSE framework.
I really enjoyed Morgan’s writing style it felt more like a chat with a friend.
And I enjoyed the mix of her personal experiences and those of others to bring some of the frameworks and tools to life.
Whenever I’m feeling that sense of anxiety creep up I will go back to this book, it is on my Kindle so easy to access on my phone using the Kindle App.
