Lunch at Tea on the Train Bellingham – review
We recently enjoyed lunch at Tea on the Train, Bellingham Northumberland so thought I’d share an honest review.
About Tea on the Train
Tea on the Train is a tearoom based in a first-class HST 125 railway carriage at Bellingham Station Yard, just outside the Heritage Centre.
Originally opened in 2012, the Heritage Centre took over its running in March 2022, with all profits reinvested into the Centre.
Specialising in home baking and light refreshments, the tearoom offers a unique and comfortable setting, with improved seating and air conditioning introduced in 2023.
Visitors are assured a warm welcome from the friendly team.
Lunch at Tea on the Train
To celebrate Steve’s birthday, we decided to enjoy lunch at Tea on the Train in Bellingham, Northumberland during our stay at the Skylark treehouse at Hesleyside Huts.
Steve and I had visited a few years ago when we first stayed at Hesleyside Huts, but this was Elsie’s first time — and it didn’t disappoint.
We had booked a table the day before, although walk-ins were also welcomed and easily accommodated.
The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, making it a lovely spot for a family lunch.
Elsie chose the children’s afternoon tea, which was a generous portion and beautifully presented.
You can choose which sandwich and it’s accompanied with crisps, a generous slice of Victoria Sponge and a chocolate brownie.
The cake was moist and delicious and the chocolate brownie was gooey and melted in the mouth.
I opted for the BLT, served with a fresh side salad and crisps but removed the tomato.
The bacon was crispy just the way I like it and I throughly enjoyed my lunch.
Steve had the sausage and caramelised onion chutney toastie, also accompanied by salad and crisps.
To drink, Steve enjoyed a pot of tea, Elsie had an orange juice, and I had a crisp, refreshing Coke — of course!
The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout, adding to the relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Overall, it was a delightful lunch in a charming setting, perfect for a special occasion or simply a treat while exploring the area.
We enjoyed a mooch around the Heritage Centre post-lunch and of course made a donation.
