Galentine’s, Giggles & Getting Creative at Spotty Giraffe
I went to a Galentine’s sip and paint night at Spotty Giraffe Play Café in Consett, so I thought I’d share my thoughts – especially if you’ve ever considered booking something like this on your own.
I spotted the event advertised on their Instagram and immediately thought… why not?
So I messaged to check whether it would be okay to book as a solo guest and was reassured straight away – absolutely! That small act of kindness made such a difference.
I parked nearby and walked the short distance to the café, following behind two equally lovely ladies carrying their bottles (always a reassuring sign you’re in the right place!).
From the moment I stepped inside, the welcome was warm and genuine.
The Vibe
The space had been completely transformed in honour of Valentine’s/Galentine’s.
Think red and pink striped tablecloths, a huge backdrop of multi-coloured streamers, and a big LOVE balloon display.

It felt fun, relaxed and just the right amount of fabulous.
Each person had their own mini easel with a blank canvas ready to go.
There was a welcome punch on arrival, a table of snacks, and we each took turns adding paint to our palettes.

Inspiration postcards were available for anyone who wanted a starting point – perfect if you’re not feeling particularly Picasso-esque.
On the night, I was seated next to the loveliest women and instantly felt welcome.
The Experience
It was honestly a lovely couple of hours – and one I so desperately needed.
There’s something incredibly therapeutic about sitting down, chatting, and just creating without pressure.
I decided to paint a quote along with some of the things Elsie loves, so she could have it on display in her bedroom or playroom.
Thankfully, Elsie absolutely loves it – which is all the review I really needed!
What stood out most wasn’t just the painting, but the atmosphere.
I was nervous about putting myself out there and attending on my own, but I am so glad I took that leap of faith.
I left feeling lighter, inspired, and genuinely proud of myself for going.
They also brought round freshly baked delicious brownies to your table and were on hand to make hot or cold drinks too.
About Spotty Giraffe
This was my first ever sip and paint – and my first visit to Spotty Giraffe.
For anyone who hasn’t been before, Spotty Giraffe caters for children aged 0–4 years.
The space includes everything from ink pads and sensory lights to slides, with a café area where you can sit back and relax while your little ones play.
They offer hot sandwiches, drinks, snacks and delicious cakes, and all sessions are booked in advance.
Each session lasts 1 hour 45 minutes, with three sessions per day. They’re located on Durham Road in Blackhill.
Unfortunately Elsie is too old to go because we would have loved to have a play date here!
It’s lovely to see them branching out into adult events too – and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for future evenings like this.
If you’ve been hesitating about booking something solo, consider this your sign.
Sometimes the best things happen when you simply decide to show up.
