Afternoon Tea at the Vermont Hotel
Elsie and I enjoyed Afternoon Tea at the Vermont Hotel with one of my best friends Kellie, pre-lockdown.
We’re both busy mams now but that means the time we do spend together is even more special.
We’ve been friends since we were about 11-years-old thanks to a set up from our mam’s!
We’ve got a low maintenance kind of friendship where we aren’t in each other’s pockets but when we do see each other it’s like no time has passed at all.
Our text messages and in life conversations are much more baby centric now but I don’t think we’d change that for the world!
Afternoon Tea at the Vermont Hotel
On this particular Friday afternoon Elsie and I picked up Kellie and we headed into Newcastle.
It’s a rare treat for Kellie to fly solo and we felt really special she chose us to spend her time with.
The Vermont Hotel is where Kellie and her husband celebrated their wedding and she had received a voucher for Afternoon Tea for Christmas.
We had a few stairs to contend with on the way in and out which we managed by carrying Elsie in her pram between us but I think wheelchair users would have to call for assistance.
Our reserved table was in the Redwood Bar and we had large comfy leather seats to sink into.
The waitress was really friendly and started us off with drinks – pot of tea for Kellie and a hot chocolate for yours truly.
Once we were settled in she asked us if we were ready for the Afternoon Tea which we were.
We didn’t know the actual contents of our traditional three tiered Afternoon Tea as there was no detailed information either on the menu or on the website which was a shame but we still enjoyed the food nonetheless.

The sandwiches were tasty on a mixture of white and wholemeal bread which is the layer we kicked it off with.
Next up I was pleased to see two scones each – cheese and fruit with a generous dollop of clotted cream and jam.
The scones were perfect for me – the cheese one was delicately balanced and baked well and the fruit had minimal fruit which is how I like it.
We both really enjoyed the scones which were very filling.
I only managed the chocolate brownie from the final sweet treat tier but it was moreish and delicious.
Kellie took the rest of the desserts home in a box so her family could enjoy them.
We had a lovely couple of hours and Elsie was really well behaved, a big thank you to Kellie for sharing such a special treat with us.
Afternoon Tea options at the Vermont Hotel
There’s a few options for Afternoon Tea at the Vermont Hotel.
There’s the lighter option of the classic cream tea – fruit scone, clotted cream, jam and butter served with tea or coffee which is £7.95.
The traditional Afternoon Tea which is what we had – finger sandwiches, scones with ja, clotted cream and butter and a selection of sweet treats which is £19.95.
For those not a fan of sandwiches the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea sounds lovely – scotch egg, slider burger, ploughman’s and pork pie which is also £19.95.
You can also opt for alcoholic extras for your Afternoon Tea if you so wish.
