Afternoon Tea at Isabella’s Coffee Shop – review

Afternoon Tea at Isabella’s Coffee Shop – review

3rd July 2022 2 By Rachael Stray

We finally had Elsie’s belated Christening/Baptism and to celebrate we had Afternoon Tea at Isabella’s Coffee Shop with a small selection of our nearest and dearest so thought I’d share an honest review.

Following the church service for her Baptism we headed straight to Isabella’s Coffee Shop which is in Shotley Bridge, County Durham.

In the morning, Steve and his dad had dropped off table cloths, the welcome sign, bunting, balloons, the gifts and of course the cake.

And the lovely team at Isabella’s kindly set up and decorated the room for us.

Isabella’s Coffee Shop has two floors, and we had the upstairs floor booked out for our party.

The team had done a brilliant job at setting the room up just as we’d requested and it looked really beautiful.

Elsie was thrilled with the Peter Rabbit theme and of course the balloons!

They had also ensured we had a couple of highchairs ready for us to use.

Once we were all settled and seated, the team kindly brought out the tea and coffee pots and took orders for those who wanted something else to drink, juice for Harry and Amelia and a Coke for yours truly.

And then after a short wait the Afternoon Teas were delivered to the tables.

Elsie and Harry shared a children’s Afternoon Tea which had adorable bunny and flower shaped sandwiches, crisps, cakes and other treats.

We had requested some changes to the Afternoon Tea menu because not everyone at the party is a sandwich fan.

And because we had the Christening cake, we substituted the usual slice of cake to a cupcake instead.

The adults Afternoon Tea consisted of:

  • a fruit and cheese scone which were still warm
  • cupcakes
  • sausage rolls
  • egg white bread sandwiches
  • tuna brown bread sandwiches
  • caramel slices
  • corned beef pie

There was a selection of jams and butter on the table to use.

The cheese scone was still warm and a lovely chunky size. It was crumbly and cheesy and delicious.

The cupcakes were really moist and not too sweet, the Peter Rabbit cases tied in with our theme perfectly.

Elsie really enjoyed her children’s Afternoon Tea and sampled quite a lot of mine!

I enjoyed the sandwiches a lot.

The caramel slice was a very generous size but some found it a little too sweet, but I really enjoyed it.

We found the sausage roll a little greasy and the sausage meat a little sweet but both were still tasty.

We made the most of the unlimited tea and coffee having several rounds and we were really well looked after by the friendly and welcoming team at Isabella’s.

Everyone had a really fabulous couple of hours enjoying the Afternoon Tea at Isabella’s and we were made to feel so accommodated and welcome.

I’ve been to Isabella’s a few times and would definitely return.

We would absolutely recommend hosting a party at Isabella’s or just popping in for lunch or Afternoon Tea and we are hugely grateful for their kindness.
